I don’t know where I would be or what I would do without the love and support of my family and friends. The road of life is filled with detours, potholes and all kinds of twists and turns – if it wasn’t for my family and those very special friends I don’t think I would be sitting here right now writing this blog post.
We all need someone to lean on – to confide in and to help us navigate the various challenges and set-backs life throws at us. It’s taken the untimely death of a former student (Ross Rogers) who was like a son to me, to truly make me realize just how precious life is and how important family is. Sure, I paid lip service to this fact over the years, however this past week it’s hit home just how much we all rely on one another – especially within our close circle of friends and family.
My family is not even close to what you would call traditional. I have a step-son Cody who is not technically my step-son I suppose, but he is an important part of my family and he needed some help this past week. His mom (my x from 26 years ago) and I have been doing everything in our power to help him visit his brother Adam in El Salvador. For some weird reason they would not let him enter the country when he arrived the other day because his passport was weathered and worn. Our extended family have all come together via text, skype and e-mail to help him get a new passport and a flight back to El Salvador for the remainder of his Spring Break.
